Good luck following your dad’s advice to always buy low-mileage, good-condition used cars for under $5,000. Pre-owned vehicles used to be great deals, selling for a fraction of what a new car would. Now, it’s hard to find a decent-condition used sedan, SUV, or truck for under $15,000.
The second-hand car industry has gained significant traction among women buyers in recent years. According to the used car retailing platform Spinny, women accounted for 46% of the share in the used-car sales in March this year. The study also observed a 31% increase in growth in Q4 FY2024.
Delhi-NCR witnessed the maximum rise in women purchasing second-hand cars at 48% in March this year, closely followed by Mumbai at 46% and Bengaluru at 41%, the report mentioned. Among the non-metro cities, women claim 20% growth in Lucknow and Jaipur in the same period.
The Thriving Global Market for Used

Canada’s used wholesale market saw prices decline -0.42% for the week ending on Feb. 3 which, like last week, is not too far (in comparison to some of 2023’s price declines) from the previous week’s -0.63%. And the 2017-2019 average of the same week was -0.28%, according to Canadian Black Book.
“The Canadian market continued to decline, with declines closer to the historical average than the last few weeks,” said CBB in its Market Insights update. “Supply is building with decreasing demand for vehicles at auction on both sides of the border.”
