Stellantis’ Opel, Fiat to fight Chinese cars with low cost platform

MEUDON, France — Stellantis plans to base seven models on a fifth, low-cost platform, an executive for the automaker said, as it prepares to compete against an expected ‘flood’ of cheap Chinese electric cars into Europe.

The group, created in 2021 through the merger of PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, has said production of all its 14 brands would converge over time onto four platforms – Small, Medium, Large and Frame.

NextStar Energy EV battery plant lures two more suppliers to Ontario

The $5-billion NextStar Energy electric-vehicle battery plant, a joint venture between Stellantis and LG Energy Solutions, continues to lure suppliers to Windsor, Ont.

DS Actimo Canada, a subsidiary of South Korea-based DSEV, will spend $60 million to build a plant where it will manufacture battery cell module cases with wiring components for EV batteries, including those to be produced at NextStar. They will eventually find their way into vehicles built by Stellantis at its Windsor Assembly Plant.

With less than six weeks before retooling begins at the plant, the lack of dialogue “is extremely concerning,” Brennan said, adding the union hasn’t received “official” word from Ford regarding the $1.8-billion upgrade since November 2023.

A jury of 100 distinguished international automotive journalists from 29 countries selected the winners of the World Car Awards 2024.

Kia has been awarded top honors in two categories at the World Car Awards 2024. The Korean carmaker has bagged the Best Car of the Year as well as the Best Electric Vehicle of the Year awards for its flagship model– EV9. The all-electric SUV made its global debut last year and is currently on sale in international markets such as North America, South Korea, etc.

Nissan ends UK Leaf output ahead of replacement model

The new Leaf is expected to be launched at the end of this year with deliveries starting in 2025. Nissan has yet to confirm a launch date for the car.
