A shipment of luxury cars has been impounded by US Customs following Chinese parts allegedly violating ‘forced labor’ laws.

Nearly 1000 vehicles from brands owned by Volkswagen Group have been impounded by US Customs delaying their arrival at dealerships and
customers for an indefinite period.

As reported by Financial Timesthe shipment of vehicles – including Bentleys, Audis and Porsches – was stopped in mid-January 2024 as they were apparently found to use an electronic component from western China.

Consumers in search of a used car will find a mixture of good news and bad news in 2024. The good news is that average used car prices have fallen for two years in a row, according to the Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index. Renault shares lifted by talks of merger with Stellantis

France is considering a merger between the two automakers to strengthen its grip on the sector and counter Chinese and German competition, Il Messaggero said.

Shares in Renault initially rose more than 4 percent on Monday, with traders citing media speculation over the potential combination. They pared gains to 1 percent after Elkann’s comments.

Despite most businesses around the world returning to some form of normal after the pandemic, supply chain problems continue to disrupt the manufacturing and availability of new and second-hand cars.

This disruption has caused vehicle prices to sky-rocket, adding to cost-of-living pressures already being experienced by most Australians.

Car prices in Australia rise throughout 2023 with an average increase of almost 20 per cent since April 2020, even faster than the consumer price index.

The increase has varied depending on the model, but the biggest increase – of about 25 per cent – has been in the small car sector.

Volvo EX30 demand leads to best sale month brand’s history

Volvo Cars had its best sales month ever in March, largely because of strong sales of its new EX30 battery-electric small SUV.

The automaker sold 78,970 cars in March, a rise of 25 percent compared to the same month last year. That is the most vehicles Volvo has sold globally in a single month in its 97-year history, the company said.

The previous record was 78,761 cars sold in December 2020.
